What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a series of clear aligner trays that cover the teeth and gradually straighten them. They’re often compared to a retainer or mouth guard, but they’re much more discreet. At least every two weeks or so, the patient is expected to switch to the next set in the series of Invisalign trays. With the custom aligners uniquely designed for each patient, Invisalign® will gradually push the teeth into the right position without causing any significant amounts of pain or the need for frequent visits to your dentist.

What Can Invisalign® Correct?

Our dentists at Lake Norman Dentistry are here to help prevent oral health issues with Invisalign®. Invisalign® may be the right choice for you if you’re struggling with:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Teeth crowding
  • Gaps between teeth

The Benefits of Invisalign®

Along with having straighter teeth, Invisalign® also benefits your overall oral health. When your teeth aren’t properly aligned, there’s a greater risk of food getting trapped in between the teeth and causing an infection or bite issues.

Other benefits of Invisalign® include:

  • A discreet treatment
  • Fast, with most patients completing treatment in just 12 months
  • Removable
  • Comfortable
  • Low maintenance

The Invisalign® Process

Prior to receiving Invisalign®, patients must schedule a consultation. The consultation will consist of a thorough examination and a review of the patient’s medical history. This step is pertinent because it will inform the dentist of everything he needs to know about the position of the patient’s teeth. The dentist will then take a mold of the patient's teeth and measurements to send to the lab to create the custom Invisalign® trays.

Once the Invisalign® trays have been created, there will be another appointment to make sure the trays are a perfect fit. Our Huntersville dentist will also explain the importance of wearing the Invisalign® trays on a regular basis. Patients can remove the Invisalign® trays when necessary, however, it’s advised that the trays be worn for 22 hours a day. The longer the patient does not wear the trays for, the longer the entire process will take. The aligner trays should be removed when eating and to brush the teeth. It’s important to at least rinse the mouth after eating to keep food from getting caught in the teeth.

Patients can expect the entire process to last between 12 and 18 months depending on the severity of their orthodontic issues. Dr. Guice will make any adjustments as needed throughout the Invisalign treatment process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Invisalign® trays be noticeable to others?

Invisalign® aligner trays are nearly invisible to the point that few people will notice them unless the individual mentions wearing them. Invisalign® trays are a discreet and efficient way to straighten teeth without wearing traditional metal braces.

Does insurance cover Invisalign®?

Many insurance providers cover the cost of Invisalign treatment. We suggest contacting your dental insurance provider to learn more about your plan’s benefits. Lake Norman Dentistry accepts various insurance carriers.

Dental insurance isn’t a requirement to receive care at our practice. Visit our financing page to discover our payment options.

Can my teenager wear Invisalign®?

At Lake Norman Dentistry, we treat teens and adults, using Invisalign® to transform smiles. Teenagers are usually more active and busy than adults, therefore, they may remove their aligners more frequently throughout the day which could slightly delay their treatment time.
